When I tell people about tracking God, many times I hear, “Oh. You’re keeping a gratitude list.”

Hmmmmm…. No, it’s really quite different.

Gratitude lists have never worked well for me. Anytime I do “just the list”, it tends to feel random and disjointed.

When I tracked God through the loss of my dad, I was able to see what I call the “threads of God’s faithfulness” through all of it. Think about what a thread is: a long, thin strand that holds the fabric all together. That’s how I felt:  a connected-ness to all God was doing through the difficult time. I wasn’t just creating a haphazard list of counting my blessings. I was looking for God, on purpose, in THIS situation.

Tracking God is opening up a page of your journal and telling God, “I’m looking for you in this challenge.” It’s recording the struggle AND embracing what God seems to be doing. We use Bible verses, faith quotes, and worship songs, along with taking notes on where you see God working in your life.

Tracking God is watching God at work in the hard things of life.

When I track God and write in my journal, my faith is always strengthened. I see how precisely He responds to my specific prayers. It becomes this incredible way of feeling the Presence of God with me in difficult situations.

Think about your experience with “gratitude list-keeping”. Perhaps, like me, you’re ready to go deeper with how you look for God in the middle of challenges. I invite you to start by praying the following verse each morning, with the emphasis on “ME”.

“Show ME your ways, O Lord.” (Psalm 25:4)

And then take notice of what God shows you, maybe even jotting down a few notes.

Would you let me know if you try this?

📍Friend, I’ll be praying for you that you’ll see God at work in surprising ways as you track Him.

Document your faith and watch God surprise you.
